On Oct 30 a mailing was sent to the OVP registered users:

Subject: OpenVirtualPlatforms - simulator update available

Dear OVP Forum Member,

Update #2.

Thank you for your continued interest in Open Virtual Platforms.

We are excited about all the changes and additions to http://www.OVPworld.org since we last sent you an update email.

We have recently uploaded a new version of the OVP packages including documentation updates, more models and of course a new OVPsim release. This package is 20081022.0
So if you are using OVP you need to download the new 20081022.0 version now. Get this from http://www.ovpworld.org/download.php

It includes many new items:

We announced recently that MIPS Technologies are validating the OVP MIPS processor models. We now have several available. The most recently validated versions of the MIPS32 processor models are the 24KEc/24KEf. Also, the optional MIPS16e instructions been implemented and validated. We are working on the validation of the multicore MIPS32 34K with MIPS - this will available very shortly - check back soon.

In the library wiki section of the website (http://www.ovpworld.org/library) there is now the full model of the MIPS Malta board that can be downloaded with full source and a Linux image that runs on it. This is a Debian release and boots on a 2GHz x86 Windows XP laptop in about 4 seconds. The website provides detailed instructions for getting this going and debugging Linux applications on it.

With OVP you can also run Tensilica processor models within an OVP platform - again full instructions are on the web site (http://www.ovpworld.org/library/wikka.php?wakka=TensilicaDiamond).

There are a number of bare metal platforms with a processor and memory - allowing very easy development of application software for MIPS, ARM, and OR1K processors. These can be used with GDB, Eclipse, or Insight.

There are also many models of many standard peripheral components.

One early adopter OVP user - Sibridge Technologies have put their own page up (http://www.ovpworld.org/library/wikka.php?wakka=SibridgePage) with a downloadable USB peripheral for Audio.

We are also aware of new ARM920 and openSPARC processor models being developed and expect that these should be put up in the library shortly.

The full source of the models are available using Google's source code repositories.

Platform Modeling:
There have also been many additions for platform modeling, for example the addition of new Memory Mapped Components (MMC) to model external cache hierarchies, bus arbiters etc. Also we have added access to SMP CPU model features to enable very detailed control of MP cores.

Many documents have been reviewed and updated - from VMI processor modeling to ICM Platform modeling - please ensure you use the latest versions by downloading a new installation.

Also please don't forget to visit the forum (http://www.ovpworld.org/forum) to see many questions and answers regarding OVP.

Thanks for your support.
